Gifts in Kind
A Program of Morrison County United WayA Basic Needs Gift to Morrison County
Morrison County United Way‘s Gifts in Kind Program began with a phone call in April 2008, a large chain store in St. Cloud who specialized in sheets, bedding and house wares was looking for a charity to donate merchandise to.
Despite being uncertain as to what we would do with the merchandise Morrison County United Way was determined to figure it out and even more determined to see to it that the items obtained benefited members of our own community. That phone call lead to our first one year retail contract… which lead to a second one year contract with an upscale clothing store in Mall of America…which lead to yet a third one year contract with an expensive retail store specializing in children’s clothes and durable goods.
The items donated through these in-kind program are often returned items that can’t be resold, sales samples, overstock or “as is” items with minor flaws. While some items are brand new, most are open package items that are nearly new.
Since Morrison County doesn’t have a place for families in need to pick up free items like St. Cloud’s Catholic Charities emergency program, Morrison County United Way was determined to map a distribution plan to give blankets, bedding, sheets bath towels, young adult and children’s clothing to those in our community who are in need.
Starting the week of July 14th, 2008 Morrison County United Way will begin send letters to local agencies explaining our new Gifts In Kind program. The mailing will also include a Merchandise Request Form that can be used by agency representatives to request merchandise, or on behalf of their organization they can provide signed eligibility certification to community members who are experiencing a hardship or have a financial need.
To be eligible for the United Way‘s Gifts in Kind program recipients must be enrolled in a need based programs and provide proof to be eligible. Merchandise request forms will be available through local agencies, area food shelves, on this website or can be picked up at the United Way office between 8 A.M. and 5 P.M below the clock tower in the historic courthouse downtown Little Falls.
